My Cyclops Projects

Popular Electronics Cyclops, Parts Collection

My intention for this project was to make an exact replica of the camera shown in the article. My definition of exact in this case means using parts and materials that were available at the time the article was published. This made the collection of parts into something of a scavenger hunt. In a couple of cases, I had to compromise. I am still trying to find some parts, and I will substitute better parts as I find them. My biggest disappointment at present is that I have been unable to find an unused Ten-Tec JW6. In my replica, the top and side panels are original, however the bottom of the chassis is newly constructed. The other major problem is that the silver electrolytic capacitors in the power supply are not correct. They are the correct physical size, are made by the correct manufacturer and are from the correct time, but they are not the correct values. Consequently, a third capacitor is hidden beneath them in order to bring the total capacitance up to the required value.
